Boosting the power in PowerPoint 2007

Microsoft Office 2007 has been getting rave reviews for what industry experts say are dramatic improvements over previous versions. PC Week agrees, stating, “…the 2007 version combines power, ease of use, and visual clarity in ways that leave earlier versions far behind.” PC Pro says,” …[PowerPoint 2007] is capable of producing far better-looking results than you’ve seen before.” This is great news for all early adopters. So is there a downside? It’s more of a caveat that industry observers are offering up, along with their positive reviews:

“…the 2007 apps impose a more-demanding learning curve than their predecessors did." (PC World)

“We expect this new look to challenge longtime users with a steep learning curve.” (CNET)

“…the 2007 apps impose a more demanding learning curve than their predecessors. But the adjustment’s worthwhile.” (PC Advisor)

The bottom line: the change is definitely worthwhile, but be sure to get good training to ensure a smooth transition. That’s where LearnKey comes in. Now that all courses have been released for Office 2007, we have been writing about the individual applications, along with information about what you can expect to learn in the new courses. Today’s focus is PowerPoint 2007.

The new PowerPoint 2007 is filled with new slide templates, image-editing tools, and slide animations. In an effort to please frequent images users, Microsoft includes a ton of pre-programmed style galleries to spice up images and text.

Of all the new features, SmartArt stands out the most. Complex diagrams you previously had to handcraft from individual shapes, color individually and populate with text can now be made in a few clicks. Choose the diagram and type or paste bullet points to populate. The number and size of the shapes adjust automatically to the number of bullet points and the amount of text you have to display. A different color scheme is just a click away, as is adding an extra block to your diagram. If you want 3D perspective or a glow effect, it's just one click too.

So, now to our new PowerPoint 2007 course…
