Utah Students Participate In the LearnKey IT Challenge

Orem, UT- May 4, 2010 – LearnKey with the Utah State Office of Education, Career and Technical Education Department held the LearnKey IT challenge at Utah Valley University. High School and Middle School students from across Utah gathered to compete in the challenge. Students were tested on a variety of IT industry subjects. Some of the participating schools included Bear River High School, Clearfield High School, Hunter High School, and Riverton High School.

LearnKey provided the industry-based test questions for the challenge. Students had the opportunity to be tested on technology certification subjects like Novell, Cisco, Linux, and Certiport. Each exam ranged from 30-45 minutes. Throughout the year students had taken classes in these certification subjects and the challenge provides them with the opportunity to assess how prepared they are for certification in the subjects and the jobs available in the IT industry.

“Feedback from the students was extremely positive, they were delighted to have an opportunity to showcase their knowledge and compete against other students from around the state,” Jeff Hoster from LearnKey.

Canyons Technical Education Center was the number one school, with 18 students finishing in the top three in the different IT industry based tests; followed by Salt Lake Technical Center and Juan Diego. The other schools that took home top honors were Bingham High School, Bear River High School, Emery High School, and Granite Technical Institute.
